Welcome to Community Housing Associates (CHA)!

Established in 1988, Community Housing Associates (CHA) is a dedicated nonprofit housing development organization driven by a vision of creating affordable housing solutions, particularly permanent supportive housing, for individuals and families with mental illness. Our mission has always been to provide safe, supportive, and affordable housing opportunities to those who need it most.

CHA's inception was made possible through collaboration with the Baltimore Mental Health Systems (BMHS) now known as Behavioral Health systems Baltimore (BHSB), the leading agency for mental health services in Baltimore City. With the generous support of a major five-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we embarked on a journey that has spanned over three decades, impacting the lives of countless individuals.

Over the past three decades, CHA has demonstrated a strong commitment to our community, making significant strides in the development, management, and leasing of housing options tailored to the unique needs of individuals and families affected by mental illness. CHA owns and manages its housing units, working closely with tenants to empower them to live to their fullest potential. We have successfully employed a diverse range of public and private financing sources to realize our mission.

Leased Housing: In addition to our owned units, CHA leases 140 units from private landlords, broadening our reach and enhancing our impact within the community. We collaborate closely with these landlords to ensure high-quality living standards for our residents.

Ongoing Renovations: CHA is dedicated to continuous improvement ensuring that our housing options remain safe, comfortable, and modern for those we serve.
